More About Ryan – LISW-S, SAP, LICDC

Ryan is a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-S), a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), and Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) per Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. He has over a decade of experience in diagnosing and treating both mental health and substance use disorders. He obtained a master’s degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University and has completed advanced post-graduate training in Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Therapy.

Ryan is experienced in providing forensic social work assessments (in-person & online), evaluations and treatment for specialized circumstances such as DUI/OVI, painkiller abuse, workplace and court-mandated substance use evaluations, and student substance use. Ryan also evaluates first, second, and third class pilots in need of an FAA-compliant substance abuse evaluation.

Ryan seeks to provide a safe place where people feel heard and are engaged in a collaborative process to address life’s challenges through evidence-based therapy. Prior to Directions Counseling Group, Ryan provided therapy for adolescents and families treating emotional, behavioral, and substance use problems. Presently, Ryan’s practice focuses on treating behavioral and substance use disorders, anxiety problems, and chronic pain conditions. These conditions often produce secondary challenges such as depression, fatigue, and relationship distress. Ryan has tailored his training to treat these challenges simultaneously. He also provides online services for individuals who prefer mobile/remote services or who require it due to difficulties with anxiety or chronic pain.
