Understanding OCD

The term “obsessive” refers to the tendency to think and rethink an idea over and over again – far beyond any practical reason to do so. The “compulsive” OCD refers to the overbearing urge to complete a behavior or repeat a mental ritual which is believed by the person to resolve or reduce an anxious thought that undergirds the obsession. OCD is in the broad family of anxiety disorders and may include some of the following symptoms:

Therapies tailored to you

Evidence-Based Therapy for OCD

Current evidence-based treatment for OCD involves a combination of exposure-therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and SSRI medications.

Exposure Therapy

Exposure therapy is a gradual and intentional exposure to the underlying anxiety while gradually giving up the ritual which was previously being used to neutralize the anxiety.

CBT | Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy helps the sufferer to structure and practice new beliefs to replace the faulty “thinking errors” which surround and reinforce the OCD thought patterns.

SSRI Medication

SSRI medications are believed to help the individual obtain a more optimum balance of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and other brain chemicals known to affect the way the brain resolves anxiety.

What Our Counseling & Coaching Clients Say...

Overall Rating 5, 10 reviews on Google

I’ve gone through several counselors and was about ready to give up when a friend referred me to one of the counselors here. My life has truly changed as a result of the help I received. Don’t give up…not all counseling is the same. I just wish I would have called them years ago. The investment I made in myself was well worth every penny.

I met with Brian off and on for about 8 years. Great experience and he helped me develop the mental, emotional and spiritual tools I needed to succeed in life. He also helped me see my relationship with others from a very different perspective. Great experience and he’s been a great counselor through the years.
