When your relationship feels stuck in the same painful patterns, it can be difficult to find your way back to one another. Conversations turn into conflict, one partner withdraws while the other pursues, or both of you begin to feel lonely and misunderstood—even when you are together.
You may love each other deeply and still struggle to reach each other.
An EFT Couples Intensive offers you the opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and focus intentionally on your relationship. Through three days of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), you will have dedicated time to explore the patterns that keep you disconnected, understand the emotions and needs beneath those patterns, and begin building a more secure and responsive connection.
Rather than trying to fit meaningful change into a traditional weekly appointment, an intensive gives you extended time to slow down, work through difficult moments, and practice new ways of connecting.
Leslie is an independently licensed professional clinical counselor and Clinical Director of Counseling & Coaching. She earned her Master’s degree in Professional Clinical Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary and specializes in helping couples strengthen their relationships, navigate difficult seasons, and rebuild emotional connection.
You may benefit from an intensive if you and your partner:
Some couples seek an intensive because they want to address longstanding concerns, deepen their connection, or invest in the health of their relationship before difficulties become more entrenched. You will be invited into a free 30 minute consult prior to scheduling that gives you an opportunity to ask any questions, and allows me to determine if this therapeutic approach is best for your current relationship.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy that helps partners understand the emotional patterns that shape their relationship.
When we feel disconnected or threatened in a relationship, we often respond in familiar ways. One partner may pursue answers, reassurance, or closeness, while the other may withdraw, become defensive, or shut down. Although these responses may look very different, they can leave both partners feeling hurt, alone, and misunderstood.
EFT helps couples recognize this cycle and begin to understand what is happening beneath the surface.
Together, we work to:
The goal is not to decide who is right or wrong. It is to help you understand the cycle you are caught in and learn how to turn toward one another in new ways.
The intensive is structured over three days, allowing time for assessment, individual reflection, focused couples work, and opportunities to practice new ways of relating. Sessions take place at our beautifully appointed offices in Powell, Ohio. Dining locations as well as hotel accommodations will be provided at the time of booking.

We begin together by exploring your relationship history, current concerns, strengths, and hopes for therapy. This session helps establish a shared understanding of what has brought you to the intensive and what you would like to change.
Each partner has an opportunity to meet individually with the therapist to share personal perspectives, experiences, and concerns relevant to the relationship.
The second individual session provides the same dedicated time and attention to the other partner.
We begin identifying the recurring patterns that contribute to disconnection and conflict. You will explore the emotions, fears, and unmet needs that may be driving your interactions and begin developing a new understanding of your relationship cycle.
We continue working with the patterns identified earlier in the day. With the therapist's support, you will begin exploring ways to communicate more openly, recognize vulnerable emotions, and respond to one another with greater understanding.
We build on the work of the previous two days, helping you practice new ways of expressing needs, responding to emotional cues, and navigating difficult moments together.
Our final session focuses on consolidating progress, identifying the changes you want to continue practicing, and developing a plan for nurturing your connection after the intensive. (The schedule may be adjusted as clinically appropriate to support the needs and progress of the couple.)
Traditional weekly counseling offers valuable opportunities for growth, but the time between sessions can make it difficult to sustain momentum when a relationship is in distress.
An intensive provides a different experience. With extended sessions over three consecutive days, you have more time to explore difficult emotions, recognize patterns as they emerge, and practice new ways of connecting with therapeutic support.
The focused format may help you gain a clearer understanding of your relationship and establish a foundation for continued growth. Every couple’s experience is different, and an intensive cannot guarantee a particular outcome. Meaningful change often continues through intentional practice and, when appropriate, follow-up counseling.
Seeking help is not an admission of failure. It is a willingness to understand what is happening between you and to explore a different way forward.
You may arrive feeling discouraged, disconnected, or uncertain about what comes next. The purpose of this intensive is to create space for honest conversations, deeper emotional understanding, and new experiences of connection.
You do not have to keep repeating the same painful cycle without understanding why it happens.
There is hope for a different way of relating to one another.
Following the intensive, additional couples therapy sessions (commonly 90 minute sessions) may be recommended to help you integrate what you’ve learned, reinforce new patterns of interaction, and continue strengthening your emotional connection.
Based on your progress and therapeutic needs, I will offer recommendations regarding the number and frequency of follow-up sessions. These recommendations will be discussed collaboratively, with your thoughts, preferences, and feedback welcomed as we determine a plan that best supports your relationship and continued growth.
The investment for the three-day EFT Couples Intensive is $3,500.
To reserve your intensive dates, a $1,000 deposit is due at the time of scheduling. The remaining $2,500 balance is due 2 weeks before the intensive.
